Amelia Kerr Creates Historic T20I Record as New Zealand Seal Series vs South Africa
Amelia Kerr sets a new T20I record as New Zealand defeat South Africa to seal the series with a match to spare.
New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr created a world record across women's and men's T20Is as her side defeated South Africa women to clinch the series at Sky Stadium on Sunday, March 22.
Kerr scored 31 off 29 balls as New Zealand chased down a target of 160 in the fourth T20I. The win gave the hosts an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five match series.
With her knock, Kerr registered her 10th consecutive score of over 30 in T20I cricket. This is now the longest such streak across both women's and men's T20Is. She moved past Chamari Athapaththu and Rebecca Blake, who had nine consecutive scores.
In men's T20Is, the record for most consecutive 30 plus scores is jointly held by Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Rizwan, Abhishek Sharma and Hristo Lakov with seven each.
Meanwhile, Sophie Devine led the scoring for New Zealand with 64 off 34 balls, including six fours and four sixes. This was her 10th fifty plus score against South Africa in T20Is, the most by any player against a single opponent in the format. She went past Babar Azam, Smriti Mandhana and Beth Mooney, who share the previous record.
Earlier, South Africa posted 159 for 6 in their 20 overs. Jess Kerr returned figures of 3 for 16, dismissing Chloe Tryon, captain Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits.
Annerie Dercksen scored an unbeaten 55 off 32 balls to guide the visitors to a competitive total.
New Zealand will face South Africa in the fifth T20I in Christchurch on March 25.
