India will aim for a better batting performance in the second women's ODI against Australia on Friday, February 27, 2026, to keep the three match series alive.

The reigning world champions were outplayed in the series opener and lost by six wickets in Brisbane. India had earlier won the T20 series 2-1 but began the ODI leg on a disappointing note. The Indian women's team has never won a bilateral ODI series against Australia.

Australia have dominated the rivalry in this format. They have won all 11 bilateral ODI series between the two sides, including a 3-0 win in late 2024 and a 2-1 victory in September 2025.

India will look to draw confidence from their five wicket win over Australia in the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup semifinals.

In the first ODI, India were bundled out for 214. Vice captain Smriti Mandhana scored 58, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made 53 and Kashvee Gautam added 43. The rest of the batting line up struggled against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack.

Pratika Rawal was dismissed for a duck. Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma also failed to make an impact. India will expect the quartet to deliver in the second match.

Wicket keeper Richa Ghosh scored 23 but could not accelerate. The team will hope she provides momentum in the final overs.

Left arm spinner Shree Charani returned figures of 2 for 41 from nine overs in the opener. Deepti Sharma claimed 1 for 49 while Kashvee chipped in during the middle overs. However, right arm pacers Renuka Singh and Kranti Gaud failed to strike early.

With India trailing in the series, the team management may consider bringing in all rounders Amanjot Kaur and Sneh Rana.

Senior all rounder Deepti said the team remains focused on a comeback.

"As a team we played but the result didn't come our way. We wil come back stronger in the next game," she said on the eve of the match.

"We will keep it simple, we are not thinking that much. We are focussing on our strengths."

Australia will look to seal the series and provide a fitting farewell to skipper Alyssa Healy. She scored 50 in the last match.

Healy and Phoebe Litchfield put together a half century stand at the top. In the chase, Beth Mooney scored 76 while Annabel Sutherland made 48 not out. The pair shared an 85 run stand for the fourth wicket to complete the win.

Australia’s bowling unit has been effective. Megan Schutt, Ashleigh Gardner, Alana King, Tahila McGrath and Sophie Molineux have been economical and among wickets.

The multi format series also includes a pink ball Test in Perth. The trophy will be decided on points. Teams get two points for each T20 and ODI win and four points for a Test victory.

The match started at 9.20 a.m.
