India Makes History: Nears Century in Asian Games Medals!
In an unprecedented achievement, India has etched its name in the annals of global sports history with a remarkable performance at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou. As the sporting extravaganza unfolded, India's athletes exceeded all expectations, securing their highest-ever medal tally.
India's previous best medal haul was 70 medals during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. However, this year, India surpassed that milestone by amassing a total of 71 medals across various sporting disciplines.
Stronghold in Medal Standings:
On Day 10, India secured 69 medals, maintaining their fourth position in the overall medal standings. Day 11 brought more glory as Ram Baboo and Manju Rani clinched India's first-ever bronze medal in race walking. Following this achievement, Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Pravin Ojas Deotale triumphed in the compound archery mixed team event, securing India's first gold in archery at these Games.
Diverse Medal Haul:
India's medal count comprises 16 gold medals, 26 silver medals, and 29 bronze medals. This outstanding performance reflects the nation's prowess in a wide range of sporting events.
Anticipating Further Success:
With assured medals in squash doubles and boxing, India's medal count is poised to reach 78, even without additional podium finishes.
Contributions from Shooting and Athletics:
Shooting and athletics have been instrumental in India's success, contributing 22 and 23 medals, respectively. The track and field events, including Neeraj Chopra's javelin throw final, still hold the potential for more medals.
India's ascent in the medal tally highlights the remarkable progress since the inaugural Asian Games. In those early days, India finished second overall with 15 gold, 16 silver, and 20 bronze medals. As the Asian Games in Hangzhou continue, India remains in contention for medals across various sports. With hopes of surpassing 90 medals, this achievement would mark a historic milestone in India's sporting journey.
