Manisha Kalyan goal not enough as India lose to Chinese Taipei in Women's Asia Cup
India ended its Women's Asia Cup campaign without a point as Chinese Taipei beat them 3 to 1. Manisha Kalyan scored India's only goal in Sydney.
India's campaign at the AFC Women's Asian Cup ended without a point after Chinese Taipei secured a 3 to 1 win in Sydney on Tuesday to reach the quarter finals.
India had already been eliminated before the match. The side still pushed for an early lead when Martina Thokchom's header hit the post.
Chinese Taipei opened the scoring soon after. Sanju Yadav's pass to the goalkeeper was intercepted by Chen Jin-wen, who crossed for Su Yu-hsuan to finish.
Manisha Kalyan scores for India
Manisha Kalyan equalised for India in the 39th minute with a long range free kick. Her left footed strike hit the crossbar and bounced behind the line to make it 1 to 1.
Chinese Taipei regained the lead just before halftime. Hsu Yi-yun's penalty hit the post and rebounded off Indian goalkeeper Elangbam Panthoi Chanu before rolling into the net.
Wu Kai-ching later set up Chen Yu-chin with a through ball in the 77th minute to seal the result.
India finished the group stage with zero points and a goal difference of minus 14. Their 11 to 0 defeat to Japan women's national football team earlier had already ended their qualification hopes.
Japan dominate group stage
Japan topped Group C after a 4 to 0 win over Vietnam women's national football team.
Yui Hasegawa provided a cross that Rio Ueki headed in during the 21st minute.
Vietnam goalkeeper Khong Thi Hang made several saves in the first half to keep the score down. Japan added three more goals in the second half through Maika Hamano, Aoba Fujino and Kiko Seike.
Vietnam finished with three points but ranked bottom among the third placed teams. Uzbekistan women's national football team and Philippines women's national football team advanced to the quarter finals on goal difference.
Chinese Taipei will face defending champions China women's national football team on Saturday. Japan will play the Philippines a day later.
