Pakistan's opening batsman, Sahibzada Farhan, has been named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for February 2026. He becomes the first Pakistani player to win this award since Haris Rauf in November 2024. He received this honor for his magnificent performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup, where his bat rained runs on the biggest stage of all. Yet, he has received this accolade from the ICC at a time when his own country—Pakistan—has imposed a heavy fine on him.

However, despite his stellar performance, the PCB has imposed a fine on him, sparking a controversy.

Two Centuries in a Single World Cup: A Major Record Set

Delivering a magnificent performance in T20 Internationals, Farhan smashed two centuries within a single World Cup edition.

* An unbeaten 100 runs off 58 balls against Namibia (Colombo)

* Another magnificent century against Sri Lanka (Pallekele)

In the match against Sri Lanka, he shared a 176-run opening partnership with Fakhar Zaman, propelling Pakistan's total score to 212.

Kohli's Record Broken

By the end of the tournament, Farhan had amassed a total of 383 runs.

* He broke Virat Kohli's record of 319 runs set during the 2014 World Cup.

* He became the batsman with the most runs scored in a single edition of the tournament.

Fined Despite Stellar Performance

However, this award comes at a time when Pakistan has imposed fines on several players—including Farhan—due to the team's overall poor performance. This decision has sparked considerable controversy, as many believe that, given his record-breaking performance, Farhan should not have been penalized.

What Did Farhan Say?

Upon receiving the award, Farhan expressed his delight but also gave credit to the team. He said, "Winning an ICC award is a fantastic feeling, especially on a grand stage like the World Cup. I will always cherish the memories of this tournament and aim to continue delivering similar performances in the future." He added that the team played a pivotal role in his success, stating that it would not have been possible without the support of his teammates.
