He said, 'If I am in rhythm, I would naturally take the initiative to take responsibility. If someone else is playing better, he does so.' Kohli is the highest century and run scorer in IPL. He has scored 8168 runs with eight centuries in 256 matches.

The 36-year-old player said that he understood the needs of this format since the 2011 season.

He said, 'In my first three years with Royal Challengers Bangalore, I did not get opportunities to bat in the top order. I was usually sent in the lower order. In such a situation, I could not succeed on a large scale in the IPL during that time.'

Kohli said, 'I started performing well from the year 2010 and started batting regularly at number three from 2011. Since then, I have performed well with consistency.

Virat Kohli admitted that spending 18 years in the league helped him hone his skills in the shortest format of cricket. He said, 'IPL challenges you in a very unique way because the structure of this league is quite different. It is not like a short bilateral series, it lasts for several weeks and your position in the points table keeps changing. The constantly changing scenario brings different kinds of pressures.'

Virat Kohli said, 'the tournament challenges you mentally and competitively in many ways which are not there in other formats. It has also inspired me to constantly improve and develop my T20 skills.'
