Statue of Sardar Patel demolished by crowd in Ujjain
In Makdone near Ujjain, a significant clash is underway over the statues of two eminent figures. The statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was targeted by a group aiming to install the idol of Baba Saheb. Subsequently, a major confrontation erupted between supporters of Patel and Ambedkar, leading to incidents of stone-pelting and arson. The police have taken control.
Shops and vehicles were also vandalized
In Tehsil Makdon of the Ujjain district, a tractor toppled the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Following this incident, two groups confronted each other and engaged in stone-pelting. Concurrently, shops and vehicles were vandalized. It is noteworthy that Ujjain Additional SP Nitesh Bhargava, along with police from Ujjain and Tarana, reached the scene. After mediating between the two parties, the situation calmed down. Due to the severity of the situation, a police convoy was also present.
A clash occurred between the Bhim Army and the Patidar Community
On Wednesday morning in Makdon, Ujjain district, the Bhim Army and Patidar Samaj confronted each other. The Bhim Army demolished a statue of Sardar Patel using a tractor and also attacked it with iron and road stones. Another party joined the conflict, resulting in stone-pelting between the two groups. Vehicles were burnt, and shops were pelted with stones by the mob.
A dispute arose regarding the demand for the statues
On Wednesday night, some individuals installed a statue of Sardar Patel on vacant land near Makdon Mandi Gate and Bus Stand. Another party wanted to install a statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar at the same location. Since the last two elections, the BJP had announced the installation of Sardar Patel's statue at the disputed site and named the new bus stand after Dr. Ambedkar. The Bhim Army insisted on installing a statue of Dr. Ambedkar, while the Patidar community demanded a statue of Sardar Patel. Additional SP Nitesh Bhargava mentioned that he, along with the police force, reached the spot upon receiving information. Explanations were provided to both sides, and the matter was resolved.
