South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), situated in Chhattisgarh, claimed to have suffered the most from the bad weather.

The amount of coal supplied to thermal power plants during the same time period of the previous fiscal year was 22.2 million tonnes.

The country's thermal power plants received over 6% more coal from Coal India (CIL) during the first two weeks of October 2023, totaling 23.5 million tonnes (MTs). According to a statement from the public sector coal producer, the supply was 22.2 MTs in October 2022.

Until October 15 of the current fiscal, CIL supplied roughly 319 MT of dry fuel to the nation's coal-fired facilities, a volume that was 12 MT more than the 307 MTs supplied during the same period of FY23.

According to the report, the 4 % rise seen over this time period is comparable to the current year's annual growth rate for power plant requests.

For the current fiscal year, CIL was projected to provide 610 MT of supply to the nation's power plants, which is 4% more than what it provided to this sector in FY23. The "Maharatna" company anticipates exceeding its supply goals.

On a cumulative basis, CIL's intended commitment to the power sector was 316 MT through the 15th October of FY 2024; nevertheless, the company's shipments were 3 MTs ahead of schedule at 319 MTs.  According to CIL, it will achieve the goal assigned to the power industry.

The primary source of electricity in the nation is coal, and CIL is responsible for producing more than 80% of the fuel in India.
