Tata Group announces Two New Resorts in Lakshadweep Islands; Opening Date Revealed!
Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), the leading hospitality giant within the Tata Group, has recently inked agreements to introduce two Taj-branded resorts on the Lakshadweep islands of Suheli and Kadmat. This strategic move aligns with IHCL's longstanding commitment to innovation and its reputation for bringing destinations like Rajasthan, Kerala, Goa, and the Andamans to the forefront of the global tourist map.

Set to open in 2026, the Greenfield projects on Suheli and Kadmat islands underline IHCL's forward-thinking approach. Puneet Chhatwal, the Managing Director and CEO, emphasized the company's focus on sustainable development, aiming to minimize its ecological footprint while preserving the delicate ecosystem of these relatively unexplored locations.
Lakshadweep has recently gained attention as a premier vacation destination for Indian tourists, prompting IHCL's investment in the region. The move has not been without controversy, as the Maldives government criticized Indian interference, leading to strong criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by some Maldivian ministers. In response to the escalating tension, PM Modi personally visited Lakshadweep, urging Indian travelers to consider this archipelago over the Maldives.
The two upcoming Taj resorts, Taj Suheli and Taj Kadmat, promise a luxurious experience for visitors. Taj Suheli will feature 110 rooms, including 60 beach villas and 50 water villas, while Taj Kadmat, also known as Cardamom Island, will house a hotel with 110 rooms, comprising 75 beach villas and 35 water villas. Kadmat Island, with its coral richness and marine protected area status, serves as a vital nesting ground for marine turtles.
IHCL has also expanded its portfolio with the introduction of Jaagir Manor, a SeleQtions hotel located in Dudhwa, Uttar Pradesh. This 20-room establishment, set amidst orchards and forests, offers a unique blend of heritage rooms from the 1940s and luxurious villas, further solidifying IHCL's diverse and enriching hospitality offerings. As the company continues to innovate and expand, these ventures mark yet another chapter in IHCL's journey of creating exceptional and sustainable hospitality experiences.
