A possible third instalment of The Last of Us has been hinted at, following recent remarks by Neil Druckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog.

The development has generated discussion among fans, as the franchise currently includes two mainline titles released to critical and commercial success.

Druckmann shared a post featuring early sketches of key characters from the series, including Joel and Ellie, along with a caption reflecting on the journey of the franchise.

“Cleaning out the garage today and stumbled on my original sketches from 2003 for a game pitch about a man, his surrogate daughter, and a trek across a broken America. Been a wild journey. Grateful for every part of it, especially the few stops that remain on the road ahead.”

The reference to “stops that remain on the road ahead” has been widely interpreted as a possible indication of future projects related to the franchise.

The studio is currently working on “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet”, which had raised questions about the timeline for any new instalment in The Last of Us series.

The franchise continues to maintain strong popularity, supported by both its games and television adaptation. No official confirmation has been issued regarding a third instalment so far.
