The situation worsened for Delhi when, immediately following this dispute, Tristan Stubbs was dismissed on the very next delivery. Stubbs appeared visibly frustrated after getting out, feeling that his inability to change his gloves had adversely affected his batting performance.
Was the Umpire's Decision Correct?
According to the rules, batsmen are permitted to change their gloves or other equipment, but only during designated breaks—such as at the conclusion of an over or during a time-out. Equipment may be replaced mid-over only if it has either broken or become defective. In this specific instance, the umpire's decision is considered to be in strict accordance with the rules; nevertheless, the heated exchange that took place on the field certainly heightened the tension surrounding the match.
