The biggest question remains: Is this change merely a promotional stunt, or does it conceal a deeper emotional or strategic significance? Meanwhile, it is also speculated that this change might be linked to jersey number management within the team.

One theory that has emerged suggests that this decision could be connected to Ravindra Jadeja, who previously wore the number 8 jersey. However, since he has now become part of the Rajasthan Royals squad, this number had become vacant. Consequently, Dhoni's adoption of this number is being viewed by some as a form of tribute, although this has not been officially confirmed.

The BCCI made the decision to retire Mahendra Singh Dhoni's iconic number 7 jersey in 2023. Prior to this, in 2017, the signature number 10 jersey of the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar had also been permanently retired. Born on July 7, 1981, Dhoni had originally adopted this number specifically because it corresponded with his date of birth.
