On a Saturday afternoon in Maharashtra's Raigad district, a goods train derailed, leading to significant disruptions on the Panvel-Vasai railway route, according to the Central Railway.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in the incident, based on the initial information provided.

Shivraj Manaspure, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) for Central Railway, revealed that the freight train, which was en route from Panvel (in Raigad district) to Vasai (in Palghar district), experienced a derailment on the Panvel-Kalamboli section at approximately 3:05 PM. Four wagons, including a brake van, were affected.

In response to the derailment, an Accident Relief Train (ART) was dispatched from Kalyan and Kurla stations, while a Road ART was dispatched from Panvel to the accident site. Restoration work was also scheduled to commence promptly.

Following the incident, at least five passenger trains were detained at various points along the Konkan-Mumbai route. However, the disruption did not affect Navi Mumbai suburban services operating between the Panvel-CSMT section, as the derailment occurred on the Panvel-Kalamboli railway line, which ultimately led to Mumbai and Vasai.

Notably, railway authorities had previously planned a 38-hour mega block starting Saturday night between Panvel and Belapur stations of the Harbour and Trans-Harbour corridors. This mega block was scheduled to facilitate the laying of two new lines as part of the Dedicated Freight Corridor project.

The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges and safety concerns that railway operators face, with derailments posing risks to both passengers and the transportation network's efficiency. Railway authorities must continue to prioritize maintenance and safety measures to ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods and passenger services.
