Turkey does not recognize LGBT community
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has openly opposed to the LGBT community by saying that he does not recognize the community and that he would not let the community change the family structure in the country.
The president said that he does not recognize the community along with his party. He spoke this at the AK Part congress held in Ankara.
The president said "We do not recognize LGBT. Whoever recognizes LGBT can go and march with them. We are members of a structure that holds the institution of family solid, that strongly embraces the family institution,". He added "We will dry the roots of sneaky acts aiming to destroy our family institution by supporting perverse political, social and individual trends. "
Turkish government headed by President Erdogan has been showing back to the LGBTQ community in recent months. As a matter of fact, Homosexuality in Turkiye is not a crime, the police has been behaving strictly towards them during pride parades.
Turkish President has been vocal about the his discomfort with the country. Even during the his recent US visit for UN General Assembly, the president expressed his displeasure against the use of LGBT colors used in the venue.
What is LGBT?
L stands for Lesbian, G stands for Gays, B stands for Bisexual and T stands for Transgender. This represents a diverse community of individuals whose sexual orientations and gender identities differ from the societal norm. This acronym is commonly used to recognize and acknowledge this community and the unique experiences and challenges its members face.
