Two Board Exams Annually Proposed by NCF

The Education Ministry has announced the return of a two-board exam system, aiming to provide students with flexibility and time for preparation.

The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023, introduced by NCERT, details this change, highlighting the creation of a "comprehensive test item bank" for exam creation through software.

This initiative aligns with the future vision of on-demand examinations, as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP).

The current single-exam format limits students' readiness and chances for success and often assesses rote memory rather than competencies. NCF emphasizes that board exams should evaluate curriculum-based competencies, offering a valid and comprehensive overview of student performance.

Boards are expected to design and implement fair and reliable testing procedures to achieve this goal.

Additionally, the framework introduces flexibility in subject choice for classes 11 and 12, allowing students to opt for subjects beyond the traditional Arts, Science, and Commerce streams.

The move aims to provide students with diverse learning opportunities while focusing on competency-based assessment for a more well-rounded education.
