UK stands in Solidarity with Israel as Sunak visits Israel

PM Rishi upon landing in Israel

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak landed in Israel today on October 19. This visit by the PM is aimed to showcase solidarity with Israel.

The British Prime Minister is scheduled to hold talks with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The PM will share condolence for the deaths of thousands on both sides and would warn of further escalations. He said that United Kingdom stands with the people of Israel and he is in Israel to express his solidarity with the country. While talking to reporters upon his arrival he said "Above all, I'm here to express my solidarity with the Israeli people. You have suffered an unspeakable, horrific act of terrorism and I want you to know that the United Kingdom and I stand with you".

Sunak earlier also expressed his condolences for the deaths of hundreds in the Gaza Hospital Blast. He said "a watershed moment for leaders in the region and across the world to come together to avoid further dangerous escalation of conflict"

Visit at a Critical Time 

World leaders are recognising the intensity of the war and have been heading towards Israel. Recently the President of United States also reached Israel and expressed his solidarity, Apart from Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also visited the country. And now, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also visited the country. Visiting a country when it is at war is matter of serious concern because it puts the life of the individual at stake.  At such a time, visits by the head of states gives out a very strong message that these countries are standing strongly in support of Israel.

According to reports, 7 British nationals have been killed in the war and at least 9 others are still missing. Sunak condemned the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel as a horrific act of terror. He said "Every civilian death is a tragedy. And too many lives have been lost following Hamas’ horrific act of terror".

Taking account of the current situation in Gaza, the British PM will also urge the opening of the pass to let the humanitarian aid reach Gaza from Egypt and also provide an opportunity for British nationals to leave Gaza.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to visit other counties. Rishi Sunak will visit Egypt, Turkey and Qatar over the next 3 days.

United Kingdom to support Jewish Community

Rishi Sunak has been active on twitter to express his constant support for Israel and the Jewish community in UK and all over the world. He has also condemned the acts of terror by Hamas.

The attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7 sent waves of threat to the Jewish community throughout the world. To provide them assurance, Sunak has been vocal on his support for the community. Earlier on October 14.  he took to twitter to say "I stand with you, the British Jewish community, and I will do everything I possibly can to protect you".

Rishi also held in person talks with the King of Jorden on the matter.  Apart from this, he spoke to Turkish president Erdogan, Palestinian president Abbas,  UAE Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar.

UK has also increased the aid to Palestine by  one third and further 10 million euros sanctioned for humanitarian aid.

Talking about the blast at the Gaza Hospital, Sunak said that it is too early to arrive at judgement as intelligence services are still underway to find out any result.

Upon his arrival in Israel, Rishi Sunak took to twitter to say that he has landed in Israel, A nation in grief and that he grieve and stands with Israelis.

He also met with the President of Israel Issac Herzog and conveyed his gratitude for the support provided to British nations caught up in the terror attacks. "He added Together we agreed on the importance of getting urgent humanitarian support to ordinary Palestinians in Gaza who are also suffering".
