Assembly elections 2024: EC announces schedule for State polls
Election Commission: announced. The Assembly elections for Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir are due to be held later this year as the Election Commission announces the Schedule for the Stat polls today. However Jammu and Kashmir will witness elections after ten years, the last election was held in 2014. The schedule includes date of filing of nominations, polling and declaration of results. On August 14, the Election Commission held a meeting with Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. In December last year, the Supreme Court had directed the Centre to conclude the election process in the Union territory by September 30, 2024. However, Election Commission withheld election of Maharashtra and Jharkhand, but assembly election Jammu and Kashmir will continue with their respective dates. Haryana, which has 90 assembly seats and over 2 corer registered voters, will go to polls on October 1 and the result will be declared on October 4.While the elections in Haryana will be conducted in a single phase, the polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases - September 18, September 25 and Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar in a said that 11,838 polling stations would be set up in J&K, In Haryana, more than 20,500 polling stations would be set up.
