Anurag Thakur spoke at the FICCI-hosted MASCRADE 2023 conference about the necessity of destroying such illicit networks that endanger the safety and progress of the nation.

Anurag Thakur stated that India must demonstrate its commitment to maintaining its tirelessly attained economic strength while stressing the importance of addressing the drivers of illicit trade. The minister further said that these illegal exchanges support terrorism.

He continued, "India's steadfast commitment to preserving its hard-earned economic strength and securing a prosperous future" makes combating the pervasive social and economic consequences brought on by illicit commerce an imperative today.

These illicit networks make a living off the selling of fake goods, product smuggling, drug trafficking, and the sale of weapons, he claimed, using the proceeds to finance terrorist activities that threaten international peace and stability.

It is essential that we address this issue head-on because of the interconnected nature of illicit commerce, organised crime, and terrorism as a clear and present threat to international security, he said.

Smuggling, counterfeiting, and tax evasion are only a few examples of the illegal commercial practises that have a significant socioeconomic impact. He claimed that it not only impedes our progress but also raises costs, putting these important objectives even farther out of our reach.

Let's work together to destroy the networks that aim to risk our security and prosperity in this crucial effort. According to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Thakur, the fight against illicit commerce is not simply an economic struggle; it is a struggle for peace, stability, and the future of our planet.
