In a recent incident, US troops stationed in Iraq came under rocket attacks, but fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The attacks occurred as the Israel-Hamas conflict continues.

Groups with links to Iran have threatened to target American interests in Iraq, citing US support for Israel. This escalation in tensions comes after an attack by militants from the Iran-backed Hamas Islamist group, which, according to Israeli officials, resulted in more than 1,400 casualties.

The attack was launched from the Gaza Strip on October 7. Subsequent Israeli reprisal strikes on Gaza have claimed more than 3,700 lives, according to the Palestinian enclave's Hamas-controlled health ministry.

Details of the Attacks

On Thursday night, three Katyusha rockets landed near a base of the international coalition close to Baghdad International Airport, where US troops are stationed. An Iraqi security official reported the incident and mentioned that no injuries occurred, while the extent of material damage was being assessed.

Another rocket attack took place on Thursday evening, targeting the Ain al-Assad base in western Iraq, which also houses US troops. The attack was claimed by a group known as the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq," affiliated with Shiite factions loyal to Iran. Fortunately, there were no reported damages in this second attack.

Previous Incidents

On a preceding occasion, the US military reported that it had intercepted two drones fired at American forces and the international coalition in western Iraq.

The United States currently maintains approximately 2,500 troops at three bases in Iraq, alongside around 1,000 soldiers from other countries within the international coalition formed to combat the Islamic State jihadist group.

Increased Threats

These rocket attacks come in the context of heightened threats against the United States by factions loyal to Iran. Notably, the Hezbollah Brigades demanded the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq, warning of dire consequences if they do not comply, stating, "otherwise they will taste the fires of hell."

The situation remains tense, and the safety of US  troops and their presence in the region is a matter of concern amid these escalating tensions.
