USA man released of charges of crime he never committed after 47 years
A citizen of United States of America, Leonard Mack was arrested and convicted in 1975 in New York in Greenburg for a crime he never committed.
Leonard was sent to jail on the charges of Raping a teenage girl who was returning from school to home with another girl. After this, the Police started looking for he accused who was supposedly black in the mostly white neighborhood. The police arrested Leonard Mack for the charges. Leonard is of African American origin.
According to Innocence project which assisted in the process of exonerated Mack said “I want to first thank God for this day. Next, I want to thank the Innocence Project. Today has been a long time coming. I lost seven-and-a-half years of my life in prison for a crime I did not commit and I have lived with this injustice hanging over my head for almost 50 years. It changed the course of my life — everything from where I lived to my relationship with my family. I never lost hope that one day that I would be proven innocent. Now the truth has come to light and I can finally breathe. I am finally free.”

This is not the first case, American courts have punished many for the crimes they never committed.
This is one of the longest period of Jail lived by an person who never committed the crime. He was proven non- guilty on Tuesday after spending 7 in Jail and 41 years with the tag of criminal. He is 72 years old as of now.
According to data from last year, February, 2551 exonerations were mentioned in the national Registry of Exonerations with the total years of these adding up to 22540 years. The judiciary of United states is responsible for taking away 22,540 years.
Leonard Mack was release of the charges based on new DNA evidence and another an who has confessed to the crime has been identified.
