Weather Update : IMD Warns of Possible Heatwave Across Multiple States

Weather Update: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding a potential heatwave in various states across India. The forecast predicts a significant rise in temperatures from April 3 onwards. The central weather agency has indicated that heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in parts of east and peninsular India from April 3 to 6. Additionally, rainfall and thunderstorms may occur in parts of northeast India on April 7.

Heatwave Alert in Specific Regions

The IMD has specifically highlighted certain regions where heatwave conditions are likely to occur. North interior Karnataka is expected to experience isolated pockets of heatwave from April 2 to April 6. Similarly, parts of Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh, including Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, are also anticipated to face heatwave conditions from April 4 to 6.

Factors Contributing to High Temperatures

The IMD attributes the rise in temperatures to prevailing dry air from the northwest/west and high solar insolation. Maximum temperatures in Odisha are forecasted to exceed 40 degrees Celsius in many areas, with a deviation of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius from normal between April 3 and 6.

Temperature Trends Across India

Over the next three days, a gradual increase in temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius is expected in Northwest, Central, and East India. Maharashtra is also likely to experience soaring temperatures in the first week of April.

Extended Heatwave Season

The IMD predicts an extended heatwave season this year, with around 10-20 days of heatwave conditions anticipated across the country, compared to the usual 4.8 days. Typically, heatwaves hit India in May-June during the summer season.

Expectations for Northern States

Furthermore, several northern states are forecasted to experience above-normal maximum temperatures this season, as per the predictions of the weather agency.
