Indian Monk Swami Vivekananda born Narendranath Datt on 12 January 1863, was the leader of high ideals, values, and thoughts. He lived his life as a religious teacher, author, philosopher, monk, and disciple of Ramkrishna Paramhans.

He is credited to bring the Hindu religion a major world religion during the 19th century. He introduced the Hindu Philosophy of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. He also worked for the upliftment of women’s status in the Indian patriarchal society and also encouraged lower castes with his work.
The youth today is highly sensitive and exposed to things that can lead them in a negative direction.  They need someone to lead them toward the light as the world they are born in is much darker than before.
“My hope of the future lies in the youths of character, intelligent,
renouncing all for the service of others, and obedient – good to themselves
and the country at large” -Swami Vivekananda
It is believed that Vivekanand’s thoughts on which he lived his life are ideal for the Indian Youth. Therefore Indian Government in 1984 declared 12 January as National Youth day in honor of the contributions of Swami Vivekananda.
This day is celebrated all over India in schools and colleges with youth conventions, speech, music, essay writing, etc.
