World Theatre Day: Sumeet Vyas on Why Stage Will Always Be Home
Why Few Actors Return to Theatre
Despite achieving screen fame, Sumeet continues to perform on stage. However, he acknowledges that many actors don't return to theatre after entering the film industry. "Cinema is more lucrative in terms of money and exposure. Theatre, on the other hand, doesn’t offer the same financial benefits, but for me, it’s where I grew up," he explains.
Difference in Directing for Stage vs. Screen
Apart from acting, Sumeet has also explored directing in theatre. He finds it more streamlined than directing for the screen. "In theatre, you mainly focus on the text and actors. But in films, there’s a lot more involved—visuals, editing, and technical aspects," he shares. Another major difference is audience feedback. "With theatre, you see instant reactions and can tweak performances accordingly. But in films, the response comes much later, after release."
For Sumeet Vyas, theatre remains a creative space where he feels the most connected to his craft. Despite the glamour of cinema, the thrill of live performance keeps pulling him back to the stage.
