Bangladesh: Bangladesh Hindu saint Chinmay Das has received a big setback from the court there. The court has rejected his bail plea. That is, Chinmay Das will have to remain in jail for the time being. The Chittagong Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jot spokesperson and Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das.

According to media reports, Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Advocate Mofizur Haque Bhuiyan said that Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge Mohammad Saifullah Islam rejected the bail plea after hearing the arguments of both the sides for about 30 minutes.

Will now appeal in High Court

After the hearing, Chinmoy's lawyer Apurv Kumar Bhattacharya said that they are planning to appeal to the High Court for bail. At around 11:40 am, 11 Supreme Court lawyers led by advocate Apurv Kumar Bhattacharya left the court premises in two micro buses under police protection. Earlier in the day, they reached the court around 10:15 am amid tight security to represent Chinmay in the high-profile case.

In the meanwhile, court has refused to grant bail to the Hindu saint of Bangladesh. Let us tell you that Chinmay Das was arrested on 25 November. Bangladesh Police has filed a sedition case against him accusing him of insulting the flag.

Petition was rejected earlier too

Let us tell you that earlier on December 11, a Bangladesh court had rejected Das's initial bail plea due to a flaw in the process. According to reports, the petition was rejected due to lack of valid power of attorney and lawyer's presence. The case took a new turn when one of Das's lawyers, Subhashish Sharma, could not attend the December 3 hearing due to security reasons.

Lawyers had gathered outside the court

Chinmay Krishna Das's previous lawyer Rabindranath Ghosh is currently admitted to Kolkata's Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) Hospital. He was brought to the hospital after complaining of sudden chest pain. Ghosh had tried to get legal help for Chinmay Das in December. According to Ghosh, when he went to file a bail plea, he was harassed and attacked outside the court. During the hearing, hundreds of lawyers had gathered in the court, which caused chaos.
