The population of Brunei is more than 4 lakhs. But The population here is continuously decreasing. however Brunei used to be a Buddhist country, it has been about 500 years since it became Islamic. Before becoming an Islamic country, people of Hindu and Buddhist communities used to live in Brunei. It used to be a major Buddhist state in South East Asia. Archaeological evidence also confirms that people of different ethnic groups used to live here.

Arrival of Islam in Brunei started in the 14th century

The name Brunei is derived from the Sanskrit word Varuna, which means sailor. The arrival of Islam in Brunei started in the 14th century, when Muslim traders from the Arabian Islands and India started trading here. In 1515, the Buddhist king of Brunei, Awang Alak Betatar, adopted Islam. He named himself Sultan Muhammad. Later, it gradually became a Muslim country. By the 16th century, as the ruling dynasty became firmly established in Islam, the population started changing their religion. In 1959, Islam was declared as a religion in the Constitution of Brunei.

 

Education, health facilities are free, no tax is levied

In Brunei, no income tax is levied on anyone. The economy here runs on oil, oil was discovered here in 1929. Due to oil and natural gas reserves, it started getting a lot of profit. Per capita income in Brunei is also Rs 28 lakh, while in India the income is around Rs 1 lakh 84 thousand. Education and health facilities are available free here.
