X (previously Twitter), where the photographs were posted by the space agency, read: On August 27, 2023, the Rover encountered a 4-meter diameter crater located 3 metres ahead of its location.

Measured the temperature change

The order to turn around was given to the Rover. It's now moving securely down a new route. Furthermore, it stated that all of the payloads are operating normally while the in-situ scientific experiments are ongoing.

For the first time in the history of space science, the Chandrayaan-3 measured the temperature change in the soil up to 10 cm below the surface at the south pole of the moon.

ChaSTE (Chandra's Surface Thermophysical Experiment)

ISRO published a graph showing the fluctuation in soil temperature on the moon at various depths.  To comprehend the thermal behaviour of the lunar surface. ChaSTE studies the temperature profile of the lunar topsoil.

It has a temperature probe with a controlled penetration mechanism that can reach the surface to a depth of 10 cm. It claimed that the probe is equipped with ten different temperature sensors.

'Shiv-Shakti' Point

ISRO has previously released images showing the Pragyan rover exploring the area around the Chandrayaan-3. This landing site, known as the "Shiv Shakti" Point. Additionally, it spread out over the Moon's surface for a distance of 8 metres.

India as the first country to reach south pole of the moon

India became the first nation with this achievement when the Chandrayaan-3  successfully landed on the South Pole of the moon.

This put an end to the disappointment surrounding the Chandrayaan-2 crash landing four years earlier. For India, this was a huge breakthrough.

India joined the US, China, and Russia as the fourth country to successfully land a spacecraft on the moon.
