The son of former Union Minister Kalyan Singh Kalvi, was a National level basketball player and also was the patron of Shree Rajput Karni Sena, which had led the 2018 protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film “Padmaavat” for alleged distortion of historical facts.

Who was Lokendra Singh Kalvi :
kalvi, a strong believer in his roots, and his Rajputh community, passionate to showcase his community the way they are and to preserve it.  The hero ideal for the people of Rajasthan despite of having some controversial issues between him and his party. He was widely respected for his commitment to preserving the culture and traditions of the community and for his efforts to promote their interests.

Political Career:
Born in Rajasthan, his father  Kalyan Singh Kalvi was a Cabinet Minister in the Chandra Shekhar government in 1991. After facing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections for 2 times one while contesting as an independent contestant and the other with a ticket from BJP, he again joined hands with a BJP leader Devi Singh Bhati seeking reservation for the poor among the forward castes, including Rajputs.

Both of them finally founded a  Social Justice Front and later in 2003 registered the Rajasthan Samajik Nyaya Manch as a political party and fielded 65 candidates in that year’s assembly elections. In 2004, both Kalvi and Bhati returned to the BJP.
Founder of Shree Rajput karni Sena:
kalvi founded his own party named Shree Rajput Karni Sena in 2006, which was named after the goddess karni,  his organization was made up for objectives like opposing any political or social malice against the Rajputs and opposing distortion of history. Karni Sena claims to have more than 7,00,000 registered members.

Controversies :
  •  Recently, karni Sena was in the headlines when members off the party objected director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in 2018 on the sets of his film ‘Padmavati’ for allegedly showing Rani Padmini, played by actor Deepika Padukone, in “poor light”.
  • In 2010, actor Salman Khan’s ‘Veer’ drew the Karni Sena’s ire as they alleged that a part of the film “maligned” the Rajput community. The organization’s opposition to films and other cultural expressions has been a significant part of its activism.
  • Earlier in 2008, Kalvi and his team went after director Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, accusing the Aishwarya Rai starrer of inaccurately interpreting history.
  • Large numbers of Karni Sena members flocked to the streets after the JDA forcibly seized the property. This slowly increased opposition to Raje’s administration, and eventually, it was successful in getting the authorities to stop the demolition process.
