Bhagavad Gita, Natyashastra find UNESCO’s global shelf, PM Modi calls it ‘proud moment

World Heritage Day 2025:  Manuscripts of Bhagavad Gita and Bharat Muni's Natyashastra have been included in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. With this, now 14 records of our country have been included in this international register. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called it a proud moment for every Indian. He wrote on X on Friday, 'This decision is a global recognition of our eternal wisdom and rich culture. The Gita and Natyashastra have nourished civilization and consciousness for centuries. Their insights continue to inspire the world.'

'Shaped India's world view'

While the Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has described it as a historic moment for India's heritage. He wrote on social media plate form x 'This global honor celebrates India's eternal wisdom genius. These timeless creations are more than literary treasures. These ancient manuscripts are the aesthetic foundations that have shaped India's world view and the way we think.

74 entries in the Memory of the World Register

An official statement said that a total of 74 new entries have been made in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register, taking the total number of archived collections to 570. UNESCO DG Audrey Azole said, 'Documentary heritage is an essential but fragile element of the world's memory. This is why UNESCO invests in their protection, shares best practices, and maintains a register that records the broadest aspects of human history.'
