Political activity has intensified in Nepal following the formation of the new government. Within just 24 hours of taking their oath, the government—led by Prime Minister Balen—took a major and decisive step by arresting former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

This action was taken in relation to the deaths of students during the 'Gen-Z' protests, for which both of these leaders had been held responsible. According to reports, the decision to implement the recommendations of the inquiry commission's report was taken during the very first cabinet meeting presided over by Balen Shah.

The report stated that unarmed students were fired upon during the protests, resulting in the deaths of several students. The government chose the path of direct action to establish accountability in this matter.

Nepal's Former Home Minister and Former PM Oli Arrested

It is reported that the former Home Minister, Ramesh Lekhak, was taken into custody early in the morning, followed shortly thereafter by the arrest of former Prime Minister Oli. This development is being viewed as a sign of a major shift in Nepali politics.

Serious Allegations Leveled Against the Army and Police as Well

The inquiry commission's report also raised questions regarding the conduct of certain officers within the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and the Army; however, no direct action has been taken against the security forces at this time. The government has decided to constitute a new committee to conduct a separate investigation into their roles.
