Maithili stated that if she were given the opportunity to contest, she would contest from either Mudhbani or Darbhanga. However, at that time, Maithili had expressed her desire to contest her first election from the Benipatti assembly seat in her home district. But there are reports that the BJP may field Maithili from the Alinagar assembly seat. Alinagar is a prominent constituency in Darbhanga district. Brahmin, Yadav, and Muslim voters have dominated here, playing a significant role in elections. Alinagar is a general constituency. It was previously part of the Manigachhi assembly constituency, but after delimitation, it became a new assembly constituency. It is a completely rural area.

In the 2010 assembly elections, RJD's Abdul Bari Siddiqui won this seat. He defeated JDU's Prabhakar Choudhary by nearly 5,000 votes. Abdul Bari received 37,923 votes, while Prabhakar Choudhary received 32,934. Congress's Madan Mohan Jha came in third, with 6,762 votes. Abdul Bari Siddiqui also won in the 2015 assembly elections. In the 2020 assembly elections, Mishri Lal Yadav from Mukesh Sahni's VIP party won this seat. However, he later joined the BJP. Mishri Lal Yadav defeated RJD's Vinod Mishra.

The 25-year-old singer is renowned for her Mithila culture. Maithili has been passionate about singing since childhood. She is a playback singer and trained in classical music. Maithili has sung in several languages. Her father, Ramesh Thakur, and mother, Bharti Thakur, are Maithili musicians. Both work as music teachers. Maithili has two brothers, who are also pursuing careers in music. All three children have been trained in music by their grandfather and father.
