Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana: Who will receive ₹1 lakh under it and how?
Taking a major step towards strengthening girls' education and financial security, the Delhi government has announced the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, a revamped version of the long-standing Ladli Yojana.
The Delhi government has launched the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana. It is a new and improved version of the existing Ladli Yojana. Under this scheme, a total of up to ₹56,000 is deposited in installments for a girl's education. This amount increases to over ₹1 lakh over time. Its purpose is to ensure girls' education and prevent them from dropping out.
This initiative aims to ensure that no girl in the capital is forced to drop out of school due to financial constraints. Financial assistance will be provided from birth to graduation. Announcing the scheme, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the new system addresses the shortcomings of the previous scheme. She explained that benefits will now be disbursed directly through digital channels, ensuring timely and transparent access.
What is the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana?
The Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana is a comprehensive social welfare scheme that provides financial assistance to girls at every step of their education. Under this scheme, the government will deposit a total of up to ₹56,000, which will accrue interest, bringing the total to over ₹1 lakh. This money will be directly deposited into the girl's bank account.
Why the change?
Ladli Yojana, launched in 2008, was intended to support girls' education. However, after assuming power, the new government discovered several shortcomings. According to government data, more than 1.86 lakh accounts remained inactive for years, meaning the money did not reach the girls. But now the government has begun disbursing these outstanding funds.
• Under the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, money will be provided at each stage of a girl's education to ensure her continued education.
• The amount will be returned to the government with interest.
Who can apply?
Under this scheme, only candidates born in Delhi, whose families have lived in Delhi for at least three years, and whose annual income is less than ₹1.20 lakh are eligible.
