RTE Gujarat 2026 Registration Begins, Check Key Changes And Seat Details
Gujarat begins RTE admissions for 2026-27 with over 84,000 seats. Online registration open till April 17.
Online registration for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 2026–27 academic year will begin on Saturday and remain open until April 17, offering Class 1 seats to students from economically weaker and disadvantaged backgrounds.
According to officials from the Directorate of Primary Education, more than 84,000 seats will be available in private schools across the state this year, a decline from nearly 94,000 seats offered last year.
Under RTE provisions, 25% of seats in private schools are reserved for children from disadvantaged groups, calculated on the basis of total admissions granted in the previous academic year. Authorities said parents were given adequate time in advance to gather necessary documents to ensure a smoother application process.
A breakdown of available seats shows that over 41,000 are in Gujarati medium schools, 40,262 in English medium institutions, 2,235 in Hindi medium, and 320 in other mediums.
Officials also highlighted key changes in this year’s admission process. For the first time, parents will be allowed to select not only the school but also the preferred shift, morning or afternoon, a flexibility that was not available in previous years.
In addition, the priority criteria for admissions have been revised. Earlier, children from anganwadi centres were given preference over reserved-category applicants. This year, however, priority will be accorded to children belonging to reserved categories.
