Family Falls Ill After Eating Prasad in Surat, CCTV Reveals Suspects
Family hospitalised in Surat after eating suspected poisoned prasad left outside their home. Police probe possible conspiracy.
A family in Surat was hospitalised after consuming suspected poisoned prasad left outside their residence, triggering a police investigation into a possible conspiracy.
According to reports, Gordhanbhai Donda, a resident of Shaligram Heights in the Utaran area, found a bag hanging on the main door of his house when he returned home on April 10. The bag contained boondi laddus, which the family consumed, assuming them to be prasad.
Shortly after eating the sweets, Gordhanbhai, his wife, and daughter in law began experiencing dizziness, vomiting, and severe restlessness. Family members rushed them to a nearby hospital.
During initial examination, doctors suspected that the case was more serious than routine food poisoning. Samples of the remaining laddus were sent for testing. Medical staff later found poisonous tablets inside the sweets.
Preliminary findings suggest that the tablets are typically used for grain preservation and can be highly toxic for humans. Officials indicated that the incident may not be accidental.
Gordhanbhai’s condition is reported to be critical, while the other two family members are said to be stable.
Police in the Utaran area have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the residential society. Footage has reportedly shown the movement of around five suspects, who are being identified and questioned.
Investigators suspect that the act may have involved prior knowledge of the family’s routine. Officials said the possibility of personal enmity or an old dispute cannot be ruled out.
Police have urged residents not to accept any unknown items, including food, without verification.
The incident has raised concerns about safety and misuse of public trust. Authorities said further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
