Railway Fare Hike: If you travel by train, then this news will shock you. Indian Railways has announced an increase in the prices of Mail/Express train tickets. This fare hike will be implemented from December 26. Passengers traveling long distances by train will now have to spend more money on their journeys.
Train travel to become more expensive
The Railways has announced the new fare structure (Railway Ticket Fare Structure) which will be implemented from December 26, 2025. There will be no increase in fares for train journeys of less than 215 kilometers in the ordinary class. However, for journeys exceeding 215 kilometers, a fare increase of 1 paisa per kilometer will be implemented for the ordinary class, and 2 paise per kilometer for Mail/Express Non-AC and AC classes.

This increase in train fares by Indian Railways is expected to generate significant revenue. The Railways has stated that it expects to earn more than Rs 600 crore through this change. Under this change in train ticket prices, if a passenger travels 500 kilometers by a non-AC train, they will now have to pay Rs 10 more than the current ticket price.
Patna to Delhi fare will now be this much
Let's understand the Railway Train Fare Hike with an example. The distance from Delhi to Patna is approximately 1000 kilometers, and currently, the fare for traveling in Third AC on the DBRT Rajdhani train is Rs 2395. After the increase implemented from December 26, 2025, the fare will increase by 2 paise per kilometer. This means that after this new increase, the passenger's train ticket will directly increase by 20 rupees, and the Delhi-Patna train ticket price will rise to 2215 rupees.

According to the fare increase decided by the railways, if we calculate the increase in fare for a train journey from Delhi to Mumbai, the distance from Delhi to Mumbai by rail is approximately 1386 kilometers, and the current 3AC fare on the CSMT Rajdhani Express is 3180 rupees. After the increase of 2 paise per kilometer, the fare will increase by approximately 27 rupees, and the train ticket will become 3207 rupees.
This is the second increase this year
This is the second increase in train ticket prices by Indian Railways this year. Previously, train fares were increased on the first of July. The increase in train fares by Indian Railways on July 1st was also the same. Fares were increased for different categories of trains.
