PV Sindhu Knocked Out Of Badminton Asia Championships After Loss To Wang Zhi Yi
PV Sindhu exits Badminton Asia Championships 2026 in Round of 16 after straight-game loss to World No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi.
PV Sindhu crashed out of the Badminton Asia Championships after a Round of 16 defeat on Thursday.
Sindhu lost 21-18, 21-8 in straight games to World No. 2 Wang Zhi Yi at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center.
Sindhu showed resistance in the opening game and stayed close for most of the contest. However, Wang pulled ahead at key moments to seal the first game 21-18.
The second game saw a shift in momentum as Wang dominated from the start. She controlled rallies and maintained pressure, while Sindhu struggled to respond. The Chinese player closed out the game 21-8 to win the match.
The result mirrors Sindhu’s performance in the 2025 edition, where she also exited in the Round of 16 after losing to Akane Yamaguchi.
Sindhu’s exit adds to India’s struggles in singles events. Earlier, Lakshya Sen lost in the first round to Lee Cheuk Yiu in straight games.
India remains in contention in other categories. HS Prannoy is set to face Weng Hong Yang in men’s singles.
In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto will play Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei. In women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will take on Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto.
Aakarshi Kashyap is also in action in women’s singles.
India will look to progress in the remaining matches as the tournament continues.
