Chaos in Nepal, mob burns houses of President and HM, resignation of many ministers

Nepal Protest: Violent protests against the government in Nepal continue for the second day. Young protesters vandalized and set fire in many cities including Kathmandu. The protesters occupied the President's personal residence and set it on fire. The houses of Ramesh Lekhak, who resigned from the post of Home Minister on Monday, Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, Energy Minister Deepak Khadka have been vandalized and set on fire. The public is again moving towards the Parliament House, the protesters have also broken the barricades on the way.

All the ministers of Nepali Congress, including Home, Health, Agriculture and Foreign Minister, have resigned. Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh has also resigned

Anti-government protest in Nepal

Meanwhile, many ministers including Deputy PM Prakash Man Singh have announced to resign. After the protest against the government, the series of resignations of ministers continues. On Monday, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resigned. After this, on Tuesday, all the leaders of Nepali Congress including Agriculture Minister Ramnath Adhikari, Health Minister Pradeep Paudel resigned.

People's Socialist Party leader and Drinking Water Minister Pradeep Yadav have also resigned.

PM Oli called an all-party meeting

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung had said on Monday that PM Oli would not resign. However, the threat of a breakup in the coalition government in Nepal has increased. In view of this, Prime Minister Oli has called an all-party meeting at 6 pm today. Oli says that he is in talks with the concerned parties to assess the situation and draw conclusions.

Oli said, 'I am saddened by the protests in the capital and various parts of the country yesterday and the incidents that followed. Any kind of violence is not in the national interest and its solution is possible only through peaceful methods and dialogue.

Resignation of all ministers of Nepali Congress

The Nepali Congress, which is part of the coalition government, has ordered its ministers to resign. Party leader and Deputy Prime Minister in the current government Prakash Man Singh, Arju Rana Deuba (Foreign Minister), Teju Lal Choudhary (Sports), Ajay Chaurasia (Law), Deepak Khadka (Energy), Ain Bahadur Shahi (Forestry), Pradeep Paudel (Health and Population), Ramnath Adhikari (Agriculture) and Badri Pandey (Tourism) have resigned.

Summary

In Nepal, Sher Bahadur Deuba's Nepali Congress with 88 seats and KP Sharma Oli's CPN (UML) with 79 seats are running the government together since July 2024. Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has also announced his resignation from the post, taking moral responsibility.
