J&K: Omar Abdullah met Amit Shah, discussed many issues including statehood
J&K: The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday and discussed several key issues, including the early restoration of the state status of the Union Territory. While this was the second meeting of Abdullah, who took over as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in October this year after the reorganization of the then state in August 2019, with Shah.
Abdullah had said that there are many issues, including restoration of statehood, on which he needs to talk to the Union Home Minister. This is the second meeting between Abdullah and Shah.
Demand for early restoration of statehood of Jammu and Kashmir
Abdullah is optimistic about the early restoration of statehood of Jammu and Kashmir and will probably work on a possible timeline for this. Apart from this issue, the Chief Minister will demand clarification of the Conduct of Business Rules (TBR), so that he can get a clear understanding of the powers of the elected government with respect to various departments.

On his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah said, "The meeting with the Home Minister was regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir, restoration of statehood. Although there was a discussion on granting statehood to Valley and it is expected that it will be restored.
Restoration of statehood of J&K
At present, the responsibility of law and order and security lies with the LG. I have told the Home Minister that terrorism and extremism cannot be dealt with only by involving the people of Jammu and Kashmir and taking the elected representatives into confidence.

Preparation to talk to Home Minister Amit Shah on many issues
Abdullah had said that there are many issues, including restoration of statehood, on which he needs to talk to the Union Home Minister. However there are several issues that I need to talk to the Home Minister. At present, Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory, and we are hoping to get statehood.

There are many issues, which need to be addressed
Earlier, Abdullah met Shah on October 23 during his first visit to the national capital after assuming office on October 16. However, the meeting was seen as a courtesy call. Officials had said that Abdullah had apprised the Union Home Minister of the situation and also discussed the issue of restoring statehood.
