Bangladesh summoned Indian High Commissioner; Visa-Consular Service stopped in Agartala

The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry has been summoned the Indian High Commissioner over the incident of vandalism in the Bangladesh diplomatic mission in Agartala. Also, the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh have stopped their visa and consular services.

However, attacks against Hindus are happening continuously in Bangladesh and incidents of vandalism in Hindu temples are common. Despite this, India has not taken any such step.

Bangladesh summoned Indian High Commissioner

The Bangladesh government is not taking any steps for the safety of Hindus. Also, people present in the government even say that Hindus are safe in Bangladesh. Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma reached the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh in the afternoon.

Though government news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangathan (BSS) said that the Indian High Commissioner entered the Foreign Ministry at four in the evening. BSS said that the acting Foreign Secretary Riaz Hamidullah had summoned the Indian High Commissioner.

Visa and consular services stopped

Bangladesh has stopped its visa and consular services from the Assistant High Commission in Agartala. Bangladesh official sources told PTI that this decision has been taken due to security reasons. This order will be implemented immediately.

Tension increased due to the arrest of Chinmay Krishna Das

Tension has been going on between the two neighbors since Bangladesh's ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came to India on August 5. This tension has increased further with the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmay Krishna Das last week.

However, thousands of people took out a huge rally around the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Tripura to protest against the arrest of spiritual leader Chinmay Krishna Das and the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.

Foreign Ministry of India called it regrettable

More than 50 protesters allegedly entered the premises of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, causing panic among those present there. The protesters allegedly entered and allegedly vandalized the place. The Indian Foreign Ministry has called the incident very regrettable.
