The ceremony will be presided over by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi also in attendance.
This addition will significantly enhance the Indian Navy's operational capabilities and bolster its presence in the Indian Ocean region.
This warship is a new-generation stealth frigate constructed under Project 17A (Nilgiri Class). The induction of INS Taragiri into the Navy comes at a time when the strategic significance of India's eastern maritime zone is steadily rising—particularly amidst the evolving security landscape in the Indo-Pacific region.
Equipped with BrahMos Supersonic Missiles
According to the Navy, this commissioning will also lend strength to India's 'Act East Policy' and amplify India's presence and influence within the region. INS Taragiri is equipped with cutting-edge stealth technology, modern sensors, and multi-role combat capabilities. It features advanced weapon systems—including the BrahMos supersonic missile—making it highly effective in surface, air, and anti-submarine warfare operations.
The induction of INS Taragiri will not only reinforce India's maritime security but will also further solidify India's strategic foothold in the Indo-Pacific region.
Strengthening Operational Capabilities
The induction of 'Taragiri' into the Navy underscores the fact that the naval force remains steadfastly focused on bolstering its combat readiness and operational capabilities through its ambitious fleet expansion program. As the fourth formidable vessel in the Project 17A class, 'Taragiri' is more than just a ship; it is a 6,670-ton symbol that embodies the spirit of 'Make in India' and showcases the advanced engineering prowess of our indigenous shipyards.
