Delhi is resonating with the voice of railway workers – demonstration against privatization & NPS

Railway Workers:  Delhi's Colonel Singh Stadium is resonating with the slogans and applause of railway workers these days. The 31st National Convention of the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) and Northern Railway Mazdoor Union (URMU) is going on here, in which about 15 thousand railway workers from all over the country are participating. This convention will continue till tomorrow, 4 September.

Railway worker demonstration against privatization and NPS

The main issues in the convention were opposition to privatization, corporatization and outsourcing, restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS), and permanentization of contract workers. The employees united and warned the government that if their demands are not implemented then the movement will intensify.

Ban on privatization and outsourcing Restoration of OPS and abolition of NPS Recruitment of vacant posts and regularization of contract workers Improvement in safety and facilities of women employees Promotion of Group ‘D’ employees to Group ‘C’ Improvement in health services and opposition to privatization of production units

Dr. M. Raghavaiya, General Secretary NFIR: “Progress of Indian Railways is not possible without railway employees. The government will have to accept our demands, otherwise the struggle will intensify.” Shri Guman Singh, President NFIR: “Privatization of railways is fatal for both the employees and the public. This convention is giving the message of the strength of the employees.” Shri B.C. Sharma, General Secretary URMU: “Northern Railway Mazdoor Union has always raised the voice of the employees. Restoration of OPS and regularization of contract workers is our biggest priority.”   Sakshi Malik: “This platform is a symbol of the strength and unity of the workers.
