Arun Govil, forever remembered as Lord Ram from Ramanand Sagar’s iconic 1987 TV series Ramayan, has shared his thoughts on the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the epic. The veteran actor expressed confidence in the film and its cast, calling the project sincere and well-crafted.

Ranbir Kapoor Earns Approval as Lord Ram

Praising Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal, Govil said the actor looks convincing as Lord Ram and carries the right emotional depth. According to him, portraying a divine character goes beyond acting skills and requires inner purity and humanity - qualities he believes Ranbir possesses.

‘To Play God, You Must Be a Good Human Being’

Speaking about what it truly takes to portray a deity on screen, Govil said that a person’s soul and values matter just as much as their performance. He explained that audiences should feel divinity the moment they see the actor, believing that God could truly look like that.

Power-Packed Cast Brings Ramayana to Life

The ambitious project boasts a stellar cast, with Yash playing Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey portraying Lord Lakshman. The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, best known for Dangal, adding to expectations surrounding the adaptation.

Comparisons With Classic Ramayan Are Inevitable

Govil acknowledged that comparisons with Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan are unavoidable due to its cultural impact. However, he believes comparisons should not be viewed negatively, as they naturally arise when a benchmark has been set.

Look Matters When Playing a Divine Role

The actor stressed that physical appearance plays a crucial role when portraying God. According to Govil, viewers should instantly sense divinity in the character and feel that the portrayal aligns with their spiritual imagination of the deity.

Ramayana Is Not Adipurush, Says Govil

Addressing inevitable comparisons with Adipurush, the 68-year-old actor firmly stated that the two projects are completely different. He clarified that Ramayana should not be judged alongside the 2022 film, which faced criticism for its visuals and character portrayals.

Arun Govil’s Experience on the Film Set

Govil, who plays King Dasharatha in the film, said his experience working with the cast and crew was positive. He revealed that he completed his portion long ago and looks back at the project fondly.
