Amalaki Ekadashi 2026 Vrat Katha: Date, Significance and Full Story of Amla Ekadashi
Devotees to observe Amalaki Ekadashi on February 27, 2026, with Vishnu worship and recital of the vrat katha for blessings and prosperity.
Amalaki Ekadashi will be observed on February 27, 2026, with devotees across the country undertaking a fast and offering prayers to Lord Vishnu. The day holds special significance in Sanatan Dharma and is also known as Amla Ekadashi or Rangbhari Ekadashi.
Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is observed twice every month. There are around 24 Ekadashis in a year, each associated with specific religious importance. On Amalaki Ekadashi, devotees worship the Amla tree along with Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Reciting the Amalaki Ekadashi Vrat Katha is considered an essential ritual of the observance.
According to religious texts, a Chandravanshi king once ruled a city named Vedic. The residents of the city were devoted and observed Ekadashi with faith and discipline. On Amalaki Ekadashi in the month of Phalgun, the king and his subjects were engaged in fasting and worship of Lord Vishnu.
During this time, a hunter arrived in the city. He was hungry and thirsty and stayed there for the night. He listened to the narration of the Ekadashi story and remained awake throughout the night.
After some time, the hunter died. Owing to his past sinful deeds, he was sent to hell. However, because he had listened to the Amalaki Ekadashi Vrat Katha and observed the night vigil, he was reborn in the house of King Vidurtha. In his next life, he was named Vasuratha.
As per the legend, one day King Vasuratha went into the forest and fell asleep under a tree. During his sleep, some bandits attacked him. Their weapons failed to harm him. The bandits died on the spot while the king remained safe.
When the king woke up and saw the scene, a divine voice declared that he had been protected by the grace of Lord Vishnu. The voice stated that because of the Amalaki Ekadashi fast and the listening of the story in his previous life, he was saved from danger.
Devotees believe that observing the fast and reciting the Amalaki Ekadashi Vrat Katha brings blessings, happiness and prosperity.
