Confusion over the Holi holiday in March 2026 has been cleared after the Reserve Bank of India released the official bank holiday list for the month.
According to the Reserve Bank of India, Holi will be observed on March 4, 2026. However, bank holidays related to Holi will vary across states and cities.
Holi 2026 falls on Wednesday, March 4. As per the RBI calendar, different days linked to Holi celebrations have been declared holidays in several regions.
Bank Holiday on March 2
Banks will remain closed on Monday, March 2, 2026, in cities such as Kanpur and Lucknow on account of Holika Dahan. In most other cities, bank branches will function normally on this day.
Bank Holiday on March 3
On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, banks will remain closed in several major cities due to Holi or Dhulandi. These include Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, Bhopal, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Panaji, Belapur and Vijayawada.
Customers in these cities are advised to complete important banking work in advance.
Bank Holiday on March 4
Holi will be celebrated across the country on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Banks will remain closed in many parts of North and Central India.
Bank branches will be shut in New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, Patna, Ranchi, Chandigarh, Shimla, Jammu, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Agartala, Itanagar, Shillong and Imphal.

March 17: Shab i Qadr in Jammu and Kashmir
March 19: Gudi Padwa and Ugadi related festivals
March 20 and 21: Eid al Fitr
March 26 and 27: Ram Navami

The RBI clarified that bank holidays differ by state and are not uniform nationwide.
Customers should note that online banking services such as UPI, mobile banking, net banking and ATM services will continue without disruption. However, branch services including cheque deposits, KYC updates and demand drafts will not be available on notified holidays.
