India, Nepal agree to expedite water resources, sanitation and waste management

Under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi Sir, this MOU will promote technical cooperation, exchange of experiences and joint efforts in water conservation, sanitation and waste management between the two countries. Sharing experiences of initiatives like India's Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission, community-based solutions will be developed, which will help in addressing the challenges related to water and sanitation.

On this important occasion, Minister of Water Supply of Government of Nepal, Shri Pradeep Yadav Ji, Ambassador of India to Nepal, Shri Naveen Srivastava Ji, Ambassador of Nepal to India, Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma Ji, Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, Smt. Debashree Mukherjee Ji, Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, Shri Ashok Kumar Meena Ji, and senior officials of both the countries were present.

This agreement is being considered a historic achievement in the field of water resource management and sanitation between the two countries. Given the cultural and historical ties between India and Nepal, this partnership is an important step towards making the lives of the citizens of both countries more comfortable, healthy and prosperous.

Objective of water and sanitation cooperation

Both India and Nepal face challenges related to water and sanitation. Actually, the main objective of this agreement is to jointly tackle these challenges and develop community-based solutions. India has achieved great success in providing clean drinking water and better sanitation facilities in rural and urban areas under its Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission. Now Nepal will also get the benefit of these schemes, which will improve the standard of living of the citizens there. Under this agreement, technical cooperation will be increased in water

Key highlights of the Memorandum

> Joint projects between the two countries will be given priority, so that the resources can be used optimally > Experts from both the countries will share their experiences for water management, sanitation and waste disposal. > Solutions to problems related to water and sanitation will be found by involving local communities.

India-Nepal relations will get new directions

India and Nepal have centuries-old cultural, historical and economic relations. This agreement will not only promote cooperation in the field of water and sanitation but will also make the lives of the citizens of both the countries more healthy, safe and prosperous.
