Rajeev Shukla Named BCCI Interim President After Roger Binny's Exit: Sources

Major change can be seen in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) soon. According to reports, BCCI President Roger Binny may resign from his post. During this, the vice-president of the board Rajiv Shukla has been made the acting president. According to reports, officials meeting  of BCCI was held on August 27  2025 under the chairmanship of Rajiv Shukla. During this, new sponsorship was discussed after the withdrawal of Dream 11. Roger Binny was made the chairman of the board in the year 2022 in place of Saurabh Ganguly. Now Roger Binny is 70 years old. In such a situation, he may soon resign from the post of president.

What is the rule?

According to the BCCI constitution, any official has to leave his post after the age of 70 years. In such a situation, former Team India player Roger Binny will be ineligible to remain in the post. According to reports, Rajiv Shukla will take charge for a few months. He will work as acting president till the new president is elected.

Meanwhile since 2020 Rajiv Shukla has been working as the Vice President of BCCI. Roger Binny has been a member of the ODI World Cup winning team in 1983. He was made the President of BCCI in the year 2022, replacing former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly. Sourav Ganguly was the President of BCCI from 2019 to 2022. Binny is the third former cricketer to take charge of BCCI.

What will be the next step now?

Despite the implementation of the National Sports Governance Act, the BCCI will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections next month. This is because this law has not yet been formally implemented. According to reports, it may take four to five months more for this law to come into force. Therefore, the upcoming elections cannot be postponed.

Summary

The BCCI works under the constitution prepared after the recommendations of the Supreme Court's Lodha Committee. Both BCCI and its state associations will have to follow this framework until the new law comes into force. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has clarified that elections at both the national and state levels will be held under the existing constitution until further notice.
