Rajinikanth’s Coolie Gets A Certificate: Lokesh Kanagaraj Promises No Filters on Action

Rajinikanth’s much-awaited action film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has been granted an ‘A’ certificate by the censor board, making it one of the few films in the superstar’s career to carry this rating. Known for catering to a wide range of audiences, this marks a clear creative shift for the veteran actor — as the film promises intense, raw action sequences and a grittier tone than his recent blockbusters.

Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Coolie features a powerhouse cast — Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir — with Rajinikanth leading the charge as the character Deva. One of the film’s biggest highlights is Aamir Khan’s cameo as Dahaa, reuniting him with Rajinikanth after nearly three decades since Aatank Hi Aatank. It also marks Rajini’s first film with Sathyaraj in 38 years after Mr Bharath.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is taking a short break from filming Jailer 2, the sequel to his 2023 hit, which is expected to release in 2026.
