FIFA President Gianni Infantino Congratulates Jay Shah After ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Success

FIFA President Gianni Infantino congratulated ICC Chairman Jai Shah after the successful organisation of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 hosted in India.

Gianni Infantino has congratulated Jay Shah following the successful organisation of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

India hosted the tournament in Ahmedabad, with the final played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday before a packed crowd. India defeated New Zealand in the final to win their third Men's T20 World Cup title and their second consecutive championship.

 

The month long tournament was co hosted by India and Sri Lanka under the supervision of the International Cricket Council. The event received praise for its scale and organisation from across the global sports community.

In an Instagram post, Infantino wrote, "The ICC and my friend Jay Shah Congratulations on the brilliantly organized T20 World Cup. Many congratulations to India for winning one more title. Having visited your wonderful country, I know how important this is to you."

Infantino had earlier met Shah in Milan in February. The meeting was seen as a moment of interaction between two globally popular sports. After the meeting, Infantino shared a photo on Instagram and praised Shah’s role in the development of cricket and the sport’s return to the Olympics at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Infantino also shared a photo holding the Indian jersey on social media and congratulated the Indian team for winning their record third Men’s T20 World Cup title. He also expressed his interest in working together with Shah to strengthen cooperation in global sport.

Since taking charge as ICC President, Shah has focused on expanding the global reach of cricket. The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 also set a new record for global viewership. The tournament was broadcast in more than 80 territories and in over 15 languages.
