India are set for a last-minute squad change as Mohammed Siraj is likely to replace Harshit Rana in the ICC T20 World Cup squad. Sources have confirmed that Siraj will fly to Mumbai today to link up with the T20I team before India’s tournament opener.

Harshit Rana Injured During Warm-Up Match

Harshit Rana suffered a knee injury during India’s T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai. The Delhi pacer aborted his run-up twice in an over before clutching his knee and walking off the field, managing to bowl just one over for 16 runs.

Medical Assessment Raises Serious Concerns

It is learnt that Rana met Dr Dinshaw Pardiwalla on Friday morning. Initial assessments suggest the injury could lead to a long layoff, with the team management unwilling to take risks as the knee damage is reportedly more severe than initially expected.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Cautious Update

At the pre-match press conference, India captain Suryakumar Yadav refrained from confirming Rana’s exit but admitted the situation looked worrying. He said the physios were still assessing Rana, adding that the fast bowler “does not look good” at the moment.

India Exploring Fast-Bowling Options

Suryakumar also indicated that the team management is evaluating bowlers who have performed consistently over the last couple of years. He clarified that batting depth alone would not decide selection, stressing that India will pick the best available option.

Other Fitness Updates in Indian Camp

India are already managing fitness concerns ahead of the tournament. Washington Sundar, who missed the New Zealand series due to a side strain, remains in the squad and is expected to return in time. Tilak Varma, earlier ruled out, has already featured in two warm-up games.

India Begin Title Defence on February 7

Defending champions India will kick off their ICC T20 World Cup campaign on February 7 against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, with Mohammed Siraj expected to be part of the squad setup.
