The Pakistani government has approved the Pakistan cricket team to participate in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. However, the government has imposed an important condition with this approval. According to the government order, the Pakistani cricket team will not participate in the match against India on February 15th. This means that Pakistan will participate in the tournament, but will distance itself from the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match.

Upcoming T20 World Cup

This announcement was made via a tweet from the official X handle of the Government of Pakistan. It stated, "The Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan approves the Pakistan cricket team to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, however, the Pakistan cricket team will not play the scheduled match against India on February 15, 2026."

This move is believed to be part of a strategy to financially harm the International Cricket Council (ICC). Recently, in a press conference, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi accused the ICC of adopting a double standard and stated that the organization was working under the influence of the BCCI.

Pakistan has not yet informed the ICC

According to sources, the ICC has not yet received any written information from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding this matter. The ICC will only decide on any action or sanctions once the PCB officially informs the ICC.

A post by Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on this entire issue is going viral. Priyanka wrote on X, "It's good that I got rid of it." If we failed to do so, the Terroristan team has stepped up and assumed this responsibility. The ICC should now impose a fine on them so that loans can be sought from the IMF and World Bank to pay the fine.

This announcement came just minutes after a crucial meeting between Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi had previously met with the Prime Minister and stated that a final decision on Pakistan's participation in the T20 World Cup would be made by January 30 or February 2. Significantly, Pakistan began reconsidering its participation in the 20-team mega tournament after the ICC announced last month that Scotland would replace Bangladesh. This decision was made after Bangladesh refused to tour India.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) took this step after IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released experienced fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from its team on the instructions of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Several rounds of talks followed between the two sides, but no solution was reached. Ultimately, the ICC rejected Bangladesh's appeal, refused to make any changes to the tournament schedule, and issued a 24-hour ultimatum.

Pakistan to boycott T20 World Cup

This decision has created confusion regarding the biggest and most high-voltage match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. It is believed that the ICC will now have to make a further decision on this matter, as the India-Pakistan match is considered crucial to the tournament's schedule and group alignments. Currently, there has been no official response from the ICC or BCCI on this matter.

Summary

This match is scheduled to take place on February 15th at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Following the Pakistan government's decision, the ICC and BCCI are now awaiting their response.
