A bizarre attempted theft in Uttar Pradesh’s Balrampur district has gone viral after a thief tried — and hilariously failed — to cover a CCTV camera, accidentally revealing his own face on camera.
A strange yet alarming incident surfaced from the Sriduttganj police station area in Balrampur district, Uttar Pradesh, where a thief attempted to break into a locked house on Sunday. Despite repeated efforts, he failed to enter as all doors and windows were securely locked from inside.
Stealing A Ladder
Unwilling to give up, the suspect reportedly stole a ladder from a nearby market and used it to climb onto the roof of a house owned by a woman identified as Naseem Bano. His plan appeared calculated, but what followed turned the incident into a viral moment.
CCTV Cover Blunder
Before climbing further, the thief tried to hide his identity by covering the rooftop CCTV camera with a cloth. However, the attempt backfired badly, as the camera captured his face clearly during the process, making his effort both unsuccessful and unintentionally funny.
Empty-Handed Escape
After failing to find any entry point even after a thorough search, the thief eventually fled the scene without stealing anything. While this brought relief to the homeowner, the incident left her deeply shaken.
Crime Revealed Next Morning
The attempted break-in came to light on Monday morning when Bano noticed the stolen ladder still leaning against her neighbour’s terrace. Upon checking the CCTV footage, she realised the full extent of the attempted theft.
Police Begin Investigation
Police officials from the Sriduttganj Police Station arrived soon after and collected evidence from the spot. An official investigation has been launched based on the CCTV footage, and efforts are underway to identify the suspect.
Victim Speaks Out
Although the incident appears humorous to some online viewers, it was frightening for the victim. “I live alone with my five-year-old daughter. Seeing an unknown ladder leading to my roof terrified me,” Bano said, adding that the footage clearly shows the man tampering with the camera.
Security Concerns Raised
Bano has urged authorities to take swift action and improve security in the area. “My daughter and I are very scared after this incident,” she said. The suspect remains at large as police continue their search.
